Tourism is one of the industry which has flourished extensively in India after liberalization of the economy.Liberalization,privatization,and globalization of the economy has been resulted in a big boom in the economy of the country.Consequently,people have come to posses greater purchasing power with more wealth at their disposal.Their is also great enthusiasm and willingness among people to spend the disposal in come in touring and traveling.
The Information and Communication technology has revolution has increased the connectivity between peoples and places to an extent which had never been envisaged in the past.Airlines slashed their fares to an all time low.Road and railways have also extended their reaches to the remotest corner of the country.All these factors have resulted in the boom in the tourism sector which has thrown up a lot of job opportunities. Tourism is the largest export industry in the world and the third largest export industry in India after ready made garment and gem& jewelery.During 2003,tourism contributed around Rs.3ooo crore to the forex reserves of India.Hence the hotel industry bring in the largest amount bof foreign exchange earnings for the tourism sector.The Government is engaged in the development of infrastructure,exploration of new market; product development and launching of new market plan for tourism; launching of national images building; protection of environment and the preservation of national heritage.In it is bid to better facilities to tourists,the Government provide cheap accommodation to tourist various tourist centres.Government is also involved in the promotion of wildlife tourism and co-adventure sports.

A number of organizations like the Department of tourism,the India Tourism Development Corporation[ITDC],the India Tourism Corporation Limited,etc,are involved in the task of developing tourism in the Cente.
