Bihar Tourism has taken initiative to develop Nalanda as tourist hub which is based on Bodh Gaya. In these purposes, varies development project has been announced in the Nalanda district. Infrastructure like roads, hotels, resorts, ethnic cottage, auditorium, shopping complex, roadside cafeteria and toilets of international standards will be developed in Nalanda to provide facilities of the tourists. Ruins of the excavated site of 2,500-years-old Nalanda University, which is to be considered to be one of the world’s first residential universities, are attractive tourist destination in the Bihar. Nalanda is the tentative list of for being nominated as a World Heritage Site. The tourist traffic has been showing an increasing trend, a positive aspect to develop it soon.
In the first week of February, 2010 hundred of Buddhist scholars, academics, monks, travel and tour operators and media persons from the across the world attended the ‘International Buddhist Conclave-Experience Buddhism in the land of its origin’ at Nalanda. The mains objective of the two-day international conclave was to give a major thrust to Cultural Tourism and explore the potential related to the Buddhist circuit in India and especially in Bihar.
