Coorg is situated in South-Western Karnataka on the slope of Western Ghats and Medikari which is capital of kodagu. Coorg is green pleasant place for perfect destination of holiday lovers. Festival of Arms: - The festivals of arms in Kailpodu are held in the month of June to September in every year. During this festival the weapons are well polished and also worshipped before reuse. The communities of Kodavas are gathering in the lush green field. During arms festival and test and show of their skill ness and marksmanships with guns and pray to God for blessing of the weapons.
Festival of Cauvery Shankaramana: - The festival is held in the month of October in every year. The festival is based on the river Cauvery. On the occasion of the festival, the villagers have been organized local traditional folks dance and songs in the temple.
Harvest festival: - The festival of harvest Puthari is organized by the villagers which is held in the month of November or December in every year. The local villagers are organized folk dance and folk song for celebration of the harvest festival which is called Puthari.
Dasara Festival: - Dasara is celebrated at Coorg in the month of October in every year. In this festival, local peoples has organized procession of beautiful decorated temple cars and each one carrying a different idol , finally best decorated temples wins the prize.
One can visit traditional Kerala style temple, the Bagamandala Temple is built in the Coorg. There are many beautiful waterfalls like Abbi water falls around the Madikari has located inside the coffee plantation. Another beautiful temple of 19th century, the Omkareshwar (Lord Shiva) is located in hearth of the Madikari city. It has dedicated to both Shiva and Vishnu is almost 200 years old and it has the blend of Islamic and Gothic style. This traditional beautiful temple are attracting the visitors and travelers. The famous monument of Raja’s tom is located in a hill in which houses the tombs of a king and his family and commanders. Raja’s seat used to be the place where the kings of Coorg used to sit to view the sunset. The view of beautyful valleys, green paddy fields and in few distances, the greyblue ghats. Another temple like, Lakuppe Golden Temple is a huge Tibetian monastery housing big idols of Lord Buddha and found others Buddhist deities. Tipu Sultan who ruled for a brief period over this region in the 18th century, that is the reasons for the construction of Madikeri Fort.
One can visit Harangi reservoir which is located at Kushalnagar and it is famous for it is tree houses. There is a Horticulture Research Centre which about 24 km on the Madikeri-Siddapur–Virajpet road and it is the best month to visit in this centre from March to April, as it is the best coffee blossom time in Coorg.
Trekking:-Trekking is wonderful experience in the Coorg. White water rafting on the Barapole River, South Coorg from June to October and on river Cauvery in Brahmagiri from mid-June to mid-September. The river Valannoor which draws attention to fishing lovers all over the country and is best seasons is from October to May. The Puspagiri Kottebetta etc are populars trekking spots. The trekking seasons will starts in November and it will end till March in every year.
Feasts in Coorg: - The non- vegetarians is very famous in Coorgi cuisine. It is specialty is meats, pork and other delicious ingredients. Main populars dishes are pandhi (pork), Koli (chicken), Yarchi (lamb) which is prepared by spiced with pepper, kokum, bamboo shoot, red chilly etc.
How to reach in Coorg:-
By road:- Private buses are from Mysore, it is about 120km from Coorg, Hassan is 115 km from Coorg, Mangalore 135 km, Bangalore 250 km to Coorg.
By Train:- Mysore is 55 km is the nearest rail station from there and one can catch buses or taxi which is two and a half hours to Coorg. Trains are available from Mangalore or Hassan for getting to Coorg.
By Air:-Mysore airport is 120 km, and Bangalore airport is 250 km, and Mangalore airport is 135 km and from then one can take private taxi bus or car for getting in Coorg.
Best Season: - The best season to visit in Coorg from April to November.
