Like every year, this year also Tripura Sundary Temple has been illuminated and decorated with lighting for the celebrations of “Dewali Fair’. It is very attractive and unimaginable. One can not forget such a beautiful fair. The Diwali Fair held as on 26th of October, 2011, in the matabari and its surrounding area. The devotees and pilgrims from all India have participated in these fair and worshipped the Goddesses. The Diwali Fair has been compare with the “Kumbha Mela” of North East. Tripura Sundary Temple, 3 km away south to Udaipur town and place is called Matabari. There is also Matabari R.D.Block. Mr. Brajendra Datta, retired magistrate and collector has written a book called Description of Udaipur, and according to him, in 1903, for the occasion of Uttarayan Sankranti, the Fair has been started and before that, there no existence of Fair or festival in this area.
There is much opinion about Goddesses Tripura Sundary and Temple. According to wishes of King Dhanya Manikya (145), to establish or construct one Bishnu Temple. Before that, there was a sacred place of Moghs. In 6th century, the Moghs has been defeated by the Juzar Fa, and they have left these places. This place is existed vacant after leaving the Moghs. The King Dhanya Manikya has constructed the Tripura Sundary Temple in 1501. There are much controversial for the construction of Temple and King was deep tense because Arakan and Mughal have intrusioned in this region. At the last moment, Ray Kachak, General of Dhanya Manikya have been defeated the Mughal and Arakhan. From that time, the worshipped of God and Goddesses has been started along with Shakti Goddess, Shalgram Sila and Bishnu Goddess.
Tripura Sundary Temple is a place of 51 Shakti Pith. As per Hindu mythology, it is one of the 51 Pithas of India where right foot of Mata Sati fell as a result of the cutting of the body of Mata Sati into pieces with Sudarshan Chakra by Lord Vishnu. It was said that, right foot of Mata Sati felt in the Matabai. On the day & night of Diwali, a big festival is held here every year, which lakhs of pilgrims attended in this festival.
It was said that, from the beginning of the construction of Temple, one night King Dhannya Manikhya received a divine message from Devi Bhagavati in his dreams. Then, he was instructed to fetch the idol of the Goddess from Chittagong, now in Bangladesh and to install it at the new temple. As per message, the King sent his General Rasangamardan to Chittagong in order to bring the idol. The idol was brought from Chittagong and it was immediately not enshrine because the construction of the temple was not completed, the temple or monastery was completed after some time and the idol of the Goddess has installed with complete sacred scripturals and King Dhanya Manikya was dedicated the temple in the name of the holy Goddess, and now a days, place or sites named Matabari. Besides that, there are lots of history was perceived in respects of devi-idol.
Inside the temple, the idol of the Maa Kali was kept which is made of raddish black kasticpathar; Maa Kali is still worshipped in her “Soroshi’ forming of his temple. There is an idol of smaller size of Maa Kali which has called “Chotto Maa Kali’ and this image are used to be carried by Maharajas of Tripura during the Mrigaya namely hunting and war. According to hearsay, Chhoto Maa has worshipped by one and all before Devi Tripura Sundari came up.
