MASSANJORE DAM:
The Massanjore dam was built in the 1950s with aid from the Canadian Government. The dam is 155ft high and it has 2000ft long. It may here to be mentioned that, the photography of the dam is strictly prohibited and it is instruction is that, even the guard are authorized to confiscate cameras if anyone is caught taking pictures in the vicinity of the dam. The dam is situated in the Dumka district and across river Mayurakshi. It is also known as the Canada dam or the Pearson Dam. The reservoir is so vast that one can hardly see the bank on the other side of the dam. The hills area of surrounding dam is excellent scenic beauty which is attract the travelers.
How to reach in the dam:-The easiest way to reach Massanjore is to via Siuriin West Bengal which is only 45 km away. Massanjore is 170km (approx) from Dhanbad; the nearest railway junction is Jasidih, which is 85km away.
MAITHAN DAM:
Maithan Dam is the biggest reservoir under the Damodar Valley Corporation. It is just 52 km away from Dhanbad. It was designed to control the frequently flooding river Barakar.The huge hydroelectric plant at the base of the dam is underground to maximize electricity production from the turbines. The Maithan Lake is so biggest that which is spread over 65 km. There is rest house and restaurants. There are also two boat jetties at Maithan, the larger one is Government run, and the smaller one is run by private boatman. Water sport facility is available here at reasonable price; the speed boat is also available in the Lake. There is a good range of open-air restaurants at the jetty. Recently a deer park and a bird sanctuary have been established for enjoying the visitors.
How to reach in the Lake:-Maithan Lake is about 8 km from Barakar, the nea railway station of the lake. It has also regular bus services from Dhanbad and Asansol.
DUMBOOR LAKE:
Dumboor Lake is located in Amarpur subdivision of South Tripura. The lake is look like of tabour shaped small drum, Dumboor of Lord Shiva from which the name is “Dumboor” originates. The area of the lake is 41sq. km and there are 48 islands inside the lake. The surrounding hills and beautiful islands and excellent scenic beauty of the lake make it the wonderful. During winter season, variety of migratory birds is available in the lake which attract of the tourists. There is hydel project near the lake from where the river “Gomati” originates and the area is called “Tirthamukh’ where a big fair is held every year on the Pous Sankrannti on 14th of January. The lake is one of the influences of rivers Raima and Sarma. There is boating facilities available in the lake.
