Neermahal is situated near Melaghar in the Sonamura Sub-division of West Tripura. It is distance from Agartala is about 53kms. Neermahal is built up in centre of the Rudrasagar lake.The lake is about 5.3sqkms water area which is is attraction of the tourists. The Neermahal is known as lake palace of Tripura.
The magnificent lake palace was constructed as a summer resorts is 1930 by late Maharaja Birbikram Kishor Manikya Bahadur. The construction of the of the Neermahal was undertaken by Martin&Burn Co, and it is only lake palace in the entire eastern Indian.
It may here to be mention that, it is a good combination of the Hindu and Mughal architecture which is the noticed on the doms of the magnificent palace, there are mainly two part of the palace- one on the western side known as Andar Mahal which is used by royal family and another one is eastern side which was used for the security personnel and servents. There are 15 rooms in the Andar Mahal. There is a beautiful garden laid in the Western side of the palace. In the garden, there is a open stage where drama, theatre etc,used to be organized for enjoyment of Maharaja(prince).
It is to be said that, Maharaja used to go by motor boat to the palace from rajghat. There is a motor boat ghat inside the palace upto which the motor boat could go and there are two stair at the motor boat ghat-one for Maharaja and one for Maharani(princes).
It is here to be mentioned that, for attractions of tourists, the flood lighting of the palace has been arranged in the evening. In addition to Water Sport facilities are being extended. The palace is going to be renovated and museum depicting the royal life. Style will be set up inside the palace In addition,Light &Sound on the historical past and cultural heritage of Tripura will be organized in the palace.
The information Cultural Affairs and Tourism department in collaboration with local administration has been organized Neermahal Festivals, in the month of December in every year for the attraction of domestics as well as foreign tourists.
