The National Parks and Forest Reserves of Costa Rica

There are several national parks and reserves in Costa Rica. The purpose of these facilities is to hold all types of living species. The national parks and reserves have been home to 4% of the flora-fauna fauna species on earth.

These facilities are also mandated to ensure that the natural habitats in the country are preserved. There are all sorts of exotic trees that make up the forest cover of Cost Rica. There are also marshlands in the country. Archeological sites are kept in prime conditions and historical areas preserved. The conservationists are mostly keen on preserving one of the last dry forests in Central America. The country also takes high measures in protecting the sea turtles breeding areas.

There is a tourist board (ICT), in the country; its role is to oversee the running of the tourism industry. This means that the board should make sure that tourist attraction sites are well preserved. To achieve this goal, the board has to work with the relevant ministries to achieve their objectives. The National parks service is in charge of running twenty national parks, a national monument and eight biological reserves.

The Forestry Service is given the task of protesting the country’s forest cover. There are twenty-seven forest areas that are protected by the government. The service has also ensured that there are nine forest reserves under their care. The Wildlife Office is in charge of the wildlife refuge centers.

Twenty-five percent of the national land is set aside for tourism purposes. This is the largest portion allocated by any country towards the course. There are seventy-four units of land preserved for national parks and reserves.

The country’s effort to preserve natural habitats and animals affect the neighboring countries. The reason why their efforts are felt far and wide is because the country fights to protect those species that are facing extinction. This has made the country a famous destination for ecology vacations.

Those tourists who appreciate the government’s need to protect these natural resources are usually given the authorization to visit the facilities and the areas they represent. When you visit the preserved areas, you can get involved in a number of adventurous activities. The areas are ideal for water sports, sightseeing, watching animals and camping. You can also hike in the areas and get to visit some of the historical landmarks of the country.
