Udaipur-A Religious Tourist Place of Southern Part of Tripura.India

Udaipur is about 55kms away from Agartala and situated on the left bank of of the river Gomati,   Udaipur is enjoyed the position of the capital of  Tripura  upto the first half of 18th century of Christian era and is presently the headquaters of the South Tripura district. A number of pala- sena sculpture on black stone have been recovered from this place among which images of Vishnu, Uma-Maheswar, Shiva, and Surya etc.  All the sculpture carved in the style of 11TH century Bengal school are now kept in Tripura  State Museum, Agartala.
The main attraction is  Udaipur are Tripura Sundari Temple , popularly known as “Matabari,”one of the 51 pithas of Hindu Puran,  Bhuvaneswari Temple, Gunabati groups of temples vast lake with scenic beauty.
Tripura  Sundari Temple is one of the 51 pithasthans in India.  As per Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu had cut of the body of the “Mata Sati” into51 pieces by Sudarshana Chakra and all the pieces feel at differents  places throughout the country and these places are known as Pithasthans. It is said that,  right foot of Mata Sati at Matabari .
This pithasthan is also known as Kurma Pith because shape of the temple premises resembles to that of Kurma namely tortoise, Inside temple, the idol of the Maa Kali kept which is made of reddish black Kasticpathar, Maa Kali is worshipped in her “Soroshi” forming his temple. There is an idol of smaller size of  Maa Kali which is called ‘Chotto Maa” and this images is used to be carried by  Maharajas of   Tripura during the Mrigaya
Namely hunting and also during war.
The temple  consists of square type. Sactum of the typical,  Bengali hut type structure with a  conicaldom. The temple was constructed in 1501AD by the then Maharaja  Dhanya Manikya.
In the eastern side of the temple there is a famous Kalyan Sagar where is fishes and tortoises of huge sige are found and devotees fed them with “Muri” and biscuits.  No fishing is permited in the Kalyan Sagar.
Every year on Dewali, a famousMela takes place near the temple whih is visited by more then two lakhs pilgrims.
