Unakoti – Place of Less Than Ten Million Gods and Goddesses

It  is a  Shiva  pilgrimage and date back to 7th  to 9th centuries if not earlier. The marvelous rocks carving murals with their primitives beauty waterfalls are not to be missed, Unakoti means one less than a crore (10 million) and it is said that, unakotithese many rock cut carving are available here.  According to Archaeological Survey of India,  it is a Shiva pilgrimage of Pal Yug.  As per Hindu mythology, when “LORD SHIVA” was going to Kashi along with one crore (10 million) Gods and Goddesses, he made a night halth at this location. He asked all Gods and Goddesses to wake up before sun rise and proceed for Kashi. It is said that,  in the morning except Shiva himself , no one else could get up so as to Shiva himself started for Kashi and others Goddesses to become stone images as result we have less than one crore ( 10 million) stone images and carving at Unakoti. These carving are located at a beautiful landscaped forest area with green vegetationall around which add to the beauty of carving.
The images found at Unakoti are two types namely rock carved figures and Stone images, among the rock cut carving, the Central Shiva  head and gigantic Ganesha, figures deserve the special mentions. The central Shiva knowns as “Unakotiswara Kal Bhairava”, is about 30 feet high including an embroidered, head dress which itself is 10 feet high, one each sides of the head dress of the Central Siva, there is two full size female figures- one of “Durga” standing on a Lion and another female figures on the others side. In addition, there enormous images of Nandi Bull are found.  There are also found varies others stone  as well as rock cut images at Unakoti.
Every year a big festivals popularly known as ” Ashokastami Mela” is held on in the month of second week of April and another one is “Mokhar Sanskranti Mela”  held on in the second week of January in every year. This auspicious festivals have been participated the devotees and pilgrims both from domestics and foreign countries .
It is to be mentioned that, in this fairs the Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism Department, in collaboration with North District Administration, have been organized  cultural programmes of varies cast,creed and traditional costumes .

Conclusion :- Unakoti means trust of peoples, trust of devotees,  pilgrims, every devotees worshipped their God and Goddess to purifies of mind.

How to go Unakoti:-From Agartala to Kailashahar by bus  of Rs. 70  only and  jeep from Kailashahar town to Unakoti around Rs.10 and from Dharmanagar to Unakoti by bus Rs.13  and jeep around Rs. 20-25 only  and reserve or hire of car or  auto rickshaw are available  of   around Rs. 200  only from Kailashahar town to Unakoti.
